There is no official iPhone Ultra photograph because there is no official iPhone Ultra. Today is 1 September 2026. Apple’s “Surprise and shine” event is Wednesday, 9 September, 10 a.m. PT, at the Steve Jobs Theater and on apple.com. The invite is the only official image. Everything else in this iPhone Ultra roundup is a rumor with a name on it — Gurman, Kuo, the usual supply-chain chorus — and should be read that way.
The working name inside the rumor mill is iPhone Ultra. Some notes still say iPhone Fold. Apple has not confirmed either. Treat “Ultra” as a label for “Apple’s first book-style foldable,” not as a SKU you can order this afternoon.
What the rumors actually say

Consensus as of late August: a book-style foldable, not a clamshell. Outer cover around 5.5 inches. Inner display around 7.8 inches, 4:3, iPad-like app layouts when open. Unfolded thickness rumored near 4.5 mm; closed book near 9 mm. Titanium chassis. Touch ID in the side button because an under-display Face ID stack would not fit the thinness target. A20 silicon, not the Pro variant reserved for iPhone 18 Pro in the same rumor set.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman wrote that early testers like the hinge and the pocket feel, and that the camera setup is the part people may not love. That is the most useful iPhone Ultra sentence in August: the device is a display and a hinge story, not a camera-phone story. If you buy phones for the telephoto, you may want iPhone 18 Pro instead. If you buy phones to have a small tablet in a pocket, this is the rumor you are tracking.
| Item | Rumor (not confirmed) | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Name | iPhone Ultra (sometimes Fold) | Low–medium |
| Event | 9 Sept 2026, 10 a.m. PT | High — Apple published it |
| Cover / inner | ~5.5 in / ~7.8 in book | Medium |
| Thickness | ~4.5 mm open / ~9 mm shut | Medium |
| Biometrics | Side-button Touch ID | Medium |
| Chip | A20 (not A20 Pro) | Medium |
| Price | Around $2,000, maybe more | Low |
| Ship date | Announce 9 Sept; maybe later like iPhone X | Medium |
Kuo has said Apple could announce the iPhone Ultra with the Pro phones and ship it later, the way iPhone X landed after the 8. Production of a first foldable is the obvious reason. An announcement is not a ship date. Preorder screenshots from random accounts are not a ship date either.
The 9 September event
Apple’s own events page: “Surprise and shine. Watch a special Apple Event on 9/9 at 10 a.m. PT.” The same morning is widely expected to hold iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable. The standard iPhone 18 is widely rumored to slip to spring 2027 so this slot can be the expensive phones. That split is why iPhone Ultra rumors and iPhone 18 rumors are two articles.
Watch apple.com or the Apple TV app. Do not watch a livestream with a countdown overlay and a fake “leaked keynote.” After the event, this page will be wrong in the way every rumor page is wrong: names change, inches change, $2,000 becomes $1,999 or $2,299. Come back to the spec sheet Apple posts, not to this paragraph.
Who should wait, who should not
Wait for iPhone Ultra if you wanted the first Apple foldable as a tool — email plus a document on the inner panel — and you can live with a camera that may not match 18 Pro. Wait, period, if you need a unit in week one; first foldables are supply-constrained even when the rumor mill says otherwise.
Do not wait if you needed a phone on 20 September for travel photos. Buy 18 Pro, or keep the 17. Do not wait if you wanted a $799 iPhone; nothing in the iPhone Ultra rumor set is that phone. The spring 2027 standard 18 is the boring SKU, and boring is how most people should buy phones.
Hosting angle, because this is still a hosting journal: an iPhone Ultra will not make your site faster. If the plan was “new phone, therefore new web app,” the app still needs TLS, a snapshot, and a host. Build it with a real origin — cPanel or a VPS — and stop treating a foldable as infrastructure.
iPhone Ultra rumors will get louder this week. Most of them will be the same three numbers — 5.5, 7.8, $2,000 — in a new jacket. The only new fact that matters after 9 September is the one Apple puts on a product page. Until then, the invite is the artwork, the rest is homework.
Accessories will be the second iPhone Ultra rumor wave: cases that work open and closed, screen protectors for a 7.8-inch inner panel, MagSafe questions, and whether Apple Pencil is a punchline or a footnote. Ignore all of it until the product page lists them. First-party cases for a first foldable will be scarce in week one. That is not a reason to buy a no-name hinge protector from a marketplace store opened last Tuesday.
Software is the quieter iPhone Ultra story. iOS 27’s public beta already had layout hints for a wide inner panel. Apps that are just stretched iPhone UI will look silly on 7.8 inches. Apps that already learned iPad will feel native. If you ship a web app, you do not need an iPhone Ultra SDK. You need a layout that does not assume 390 CSS pixels. That work is due regardless of what Apple names the foldable.
Carriers will try to attach iPhone Ultra rumors to a trade-in before the keynote. A trade-in quote is not a spec. Neither is a “preorder” from a store that does not have an allocation. If you must plan a line of budget, plan two: Pro Max at last year’s street price plus a bump, and a foldable at twice that. Then wait for Apple’s number.
After the event, reread this iPhone Ultra piece only to see where the rumor mill was wrong. That is the useful archive. Until 9 September, do not treat a leaker’s table as a shopping list, and do not refresh a fake livestream. apple.com, 10 a.m. PT. Then we will know whether the name was Ultra, Fold, or something nobody used in a headline.
