ISP planning calculator
IPv4 vs CGNAT Calculator
Compare modeled IPv4 lease costs with your own CGNAT platform, recurring cost, sharing ratio, subscriber count, and planning period.
Model your own numbers
Public IPv4 or CGNAT?
Change every cost assumption. This is a planning model, not a network-design recommendation.
What the calculator does
It compares cash cost, not architecture quality.
The direct-IPv4 side assumes one leased public IPv4 address per subscriber. The CGNAT side divides subscribers by your sharing ratio, then adds the public IPv4 cost, recurring CGNAT cost, and the upfront CGNAT cost over your planning period.
Important assumptions
CGNAT changes more than the address bill.
Carrier-grade NAT can add logging, port-allocation, support, lawful-request, application-compatibility, redundancy, capacity, and troubleshooting requirements. Those costs vary widely and should be modeled by the operator.
- Model redundant CGNAT capacity, not only one appliance.
- Include logging/storage and operational support.
- Check application and inbound-connectivity requirements.
- Plan IPv6 deployment separately; CGNAT is not an IPv6 strategy.
- Use your actual vendor quote and address economics before making a procurement decision.
