Types of Attacks Covered
Our protection covers attacks up to Layer 4. We do not provide Layer 7 or application-level DDoS mitigation.
Volumetric Shield
Designed to mitigate volumetric attacks. It is deployed on our edge routers and uses filtering and firewall rules to block attacks such as NTP, DNS, UDP, Memcached, and similar amplification attacks.
DDoS Protection Volume
The values differ from location to location and we also do not disclose this information.
Mitigation
During attacks, traffic is actively filtered and scrubbed. Null-routing or blackholing is not the default behavior and is typically used only as a last-resort measure to protect overall network stability. The mitigation is not permanent; the filtering only starts after an attack is recognized. The system is fully automated; no action is needed for the Shield to start filtering an attack.
