Green Leader
Green is nothing new to TEAM Companies. As Midwesterners, we have an extensive history of conserving our natural resources. We’ve been stewards of the land for generations, so we work hard to ensure that it is well-preserved. Every aspect of our data centers is designed from the ground up to minimize the environmental effects on the surrounding land. Our modular design has not only proven its success in the data center industry, but through the years has evolved to utilize the latest in green design techniques.
The demand for more powerful IT equipment and space has made data centers critical to the operation of many businesses, leading to limited power and space in enterprise data centers. Therefore, data center efficiency has become an important topic among end users, policy makers, and technology providers. While the industry as a whole is just now becoming green we’ve chosen to be green from the beginning. We know the number one consideration when building a data center is power and cooling. Working with the industry's leading equipment suppliers, our team is able to offer centers that utilize every opportunity to conserve data center power and improve cooling efficiencies.
Center Site Selection

TEAM focuses on the upper Midwest, which has an abundance of renewable energy sources available. Several states in the upper Midwest rank in the top ten for wind energy (existing capacity). Fortune 500 companies have selected the area for major data center projects because of the hydroelectric, geothermal and wind renewable energy sources.
Because our data centers are built as a multi-tenant facility, businesses no longer have the need to build individual data centers to house their critical IT equipment. When organizations outside of the data center business attempts to build an individual facility, maximizing efficiency and minimizing it’s affect on the environment may not be their priority. Because we are in the business of building and managing data centers, efficiency and environmental factors are priority. By reducing the number of independent data centers, we reduce the aggregate carbon footprint.
PUE

TEAM strives to maintain our already low PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) ratings across all data centers. The low PUE rating means that we achieve maximum efficiencies in our power delivery and infrastructure overhead. TEAM typically boasts PUE ratings much lower than industry averages.
Water Chiller Cooling
New McQuay Scroll-Compressor Templifier’s water heaters reduce energy costs by recovering waste heat and making it available for space heating and domestic hot water use. Ideal for hotels, hospitals, healthcare centers, schools, athletic facilities and manufacturing plants, McQuay Templifier units with scroll compressors range from 500 to 3,000 MBh.
The Templifier’s hermetic scroll compressors are known for reliable performance. They feature low sound levels for quiet operation and use R-134a refrigerant, which has no ozone-depletion potential or phase-out schedule. The McQuay Open Choicesâ„¢ control feature allows easy integration with the building automation system of choice using BACnet, LonTalk or Modbus open standard protocols. An optional hot-gas bypass allows unit operation down to 10 percent of full-load capacity.
“Templifier units are primarily economic machines,” said Eddie Rodriguez, product manager, McQuay scroll and screw chillers. “They provide heat at a lower cost than burning fossil fuels and generate a very good return on investment. They offer COPs (coefficients of performance) of four to five, and often pay for themselves in one year or less. This innovative heat recovery technology can reduce CO2 emissions by hundreds of tons annually and significantly reduce a facility’s carbon footprint. In addition, Templifier water heaters can help building owners earn LEED points by improving the efficiency of their heating systems.”
Hot Air Containment

CPI Passive Cooling Solutions is the most cost-effective thermal management solution on the market. By offering innovative airflow management techniques, CPI Passive Cooling Solutions allow us to maximize our cooling efficiencies without the need for additional CRAC units, in-row air conditioners or risky liquid cooling solutions. This solution has allowed us to minimize our environmental impact.
Green Grid
The Green Grid is a global consortium dedicated to developing and promoting energy efficiency for data centers by developing standards, measurement methods, processes and new technologies to improve performance against the defined metrics. The Green Grid promotes the adoption of energy-efficient standards, processes, measurements and technologies.
As members of The Green Grid, we have taken on the challenge of meeting their standards for measuring data center efficiency, which includes both the facility and the IT equipment inside of it.
Green Programs
By working with Madison Gas and Electric’s Green Power Tomorrow program, we help to offset up to 100% of the carbon dioxide emissions from electricity use. MidAmerican Energy’s EnergyAdvantage programs are also designed to encourage the use of high-efficiency space and water heating equipment, central air conditioning and other measures in commercial/industrial buildings.
By adding more renewable energy to our electricity supply, we can reduce:
- Climate change
- Environmental impacts of developing fossil fuels
- Our dependence on scarce energy sources
- Our dependence on foreign energy resources
Focus on Energy works with eligible businesses to install cost-effective energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. Its efforts help businesses manage rising energy costs, protect our environment and control the growing demand for electricity and natural gas.
